FSB calls for construction VAT cuts

Painters and decorators could benefit from tax reductions if the Government responds positively to recent appeals.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is calling for VAT to be cut to five per cent over a 12-month period for the construction industry.

Many EU countries have already introduced similar incentives and the body claims that if the UK Government followed suit, then it would give the economy a much needed boost.

"We must see a cut in VAT to five per cent in the construction sector to boost consumer demand," explains John Walker, National Chairman, FSB. "It is tangible measures like this that will actually help small businesses to be able to grow their businesses and grow the economy."
