Government urged to support small businesses
A top UK policy-maker has called on the Government to set up a bank for small business owners.
In a speech to business owners, Adam Posen, the man responsible for setting interest rates at the Bank of England, said that the Government should support economic growth by creating a fund for smaller businesses that have been refused credit by existing banks.
With many top politicians and policy-makers commenting that economic recovery will be led by small enterprises, Posen said that more must be done to ensure they get access to the cash needed to survive and grow in a tough economic climate.
"Our economic problem today is the inability of our private sector to finance and take enough constructive risks," said Posen. "For the UK, the primary need is investment for SMEs and new firms."
