Guide to help small business tackle Health & Safety concerns

A new risk assessment guide should help small businesses, such as painters and decorators, to keep their business safe without worrying about health and safety myths.

The Association of British Insurers (ABI), which published the guide, argues that over-zealous interpretations of safety rules often means that small companies spend too long making sure they won't fall foul of the law.

The guide is designed to dispel the myths and give practical advice to help firms assess risk quickly and simply.

It has been supported by the Minister of State for Housing and Local Government, Grant Shapps MP, who said: "Health and safety needs to be proportionate to risk. All too often tick-box bureaucracy and the fear of falling foul of the rules, gets in the way of common sense."
