Homeowners improving, not moving

Reports that homeowners are choosing to improve their home rather than move could be great news for painters and decorators.

Research by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) found that the slow housing market is encouraging people to hire tradespeople to come in and give their property a makeover instead of buying a new home.

"Most properties provide some potential for expansion and improvement," says Professional Groups Director at RICS, David Dalby.

"[We] advise that whatever you decide to do with your home, you should seek professional advice and ensure all works are carried out by qualified contractors," he concluded.
