Increase in consumer confidence could be good news for decorators
Painters and decorators are among the tradesmen that could well benefit from last month's consumer confidence boost. The GfK NOP Consumer Confidence index rose ten points during May, which is the largest increase since May 1993.
Consumer confidence measures how positive the public feels about their personal finances and the country's overall economy. An increase in the index suggests people are more likely to spend money on services, such as painting and decorating, as well as products.
Nick Moon, MD of GfK NOP Social Research, said the "current spring in consumers' step" could be down to the "feel-good factor of the Royal wedding and a double whammy of sunny bank holidays, or to the recent let-up in negative reporting about the state of the economy."
