Increase in social housing and health construction projects
A higher level of social housing and health construction projects during the three months leading up to July should be good news for painters and decorators.
Figures from data analysis firm Glenigan showed that new social housing developments increased by 19 per cent, while health building work grew by 17 per cent. The South West, West Midlands and South East were the areas benefitting the most from the additional activity.
The statistics have partly been put down to three new social housing refurbishment projects in London totalling £180 million, as well as a £70 million hospital ward block at the United Bristol Healthcare Trust getting the go ahead.
Glenigan suggested that increases in refurbishment and extension work should be enough to balance out the drop in new build projects last year.
