London 2012 construction nearing completion

It might soon be time for painters and decorators to start work on the London 2012 venues, as 88 per cent of the construction is now complete.

With a year to go until the opening ceremony, practise sporting events are due to take place around the Athletes Village to make sure that the pitches and tracks are up to scratch.

Speaking at the International Olympic Committee conference in South Africa, Sport and Olympics Minister Hugh Robertson, commented: Preparations are at a very good stage. The construction project is now 88 per cent complete. We are able to turn our attention to testing.
