London residential construction on the up

Painters and decorators in and around England's capital are welcoming the news that residential development activity in Greater London has increased dramatically over the last six months.

Figures from property consultant, Drivers Jonas Deloitte, show that there has been a 32 per cent rise in schemes under construction since the start of 2011. Half a year ago, there were 28,150 units being built, but the addition of the new projects has now taken this total up to 35,380.

Clive Pane, Drivers Jonas Deloitte Partner and Head of Planning and Development, said: "As soon as the currently tight monetary conditions ease [...] we will move back towards historical growth rates for London, which have averaged a little under 10 per cent per annum over the last three cycles."
