Lucky SME could be mentored by a dragon
A newly formed painting and decorating firm could be lucky enough to be mentored by Dragons' Den judge Deborah Meaden for a year, following the launch of the Local Business Accelerators competition.
The competition has been set up by the Newspaper Society, a group that represents local media, and is being supported by 500 local newspapers. It aims to promote the value of local marketing to fledgling businesses.
It is open to all businesses that are between one and three years old, and while only one company will be lucky enough to win the main prize of Meaden's support and guidance, 1,500 regional winners will benefit from three months of free advertising in their local paper. Altogether, the prizes on offer are estimated to be worth £15 million.
Meaden commented: "I've seen the unique contribution that local press makes to the success of local businesses time and again with my own ventures."
