MP's get a taste for SMEs
Painters and decorators could soon be taking on a MP for a day's work experience, under the new 'Business Buddy' scheme.
Business Buddy has been organised by the Forum for Private Business (FPB), a group that promotes the interests of small and medium sized companies. The FPB argues that politicians too often make laws that affect entrepreneurs without understanding what it's like to run a business.
In response, it has set up over 100 placements to give them a real taste of what life is like for small firms. The visits also give bosses a chance to tell MPs about the problems they are facing and how the Government can better support them.
The project has been backed by the Prime Minister, David Cameron. Commenting, he said: "I would encourage all Members of Parliament to take advantage of this opportunity to find out what it is really like to run a small business."
