Painters and Decorators put leftovers to good use

Disposing of leftover paint is a chore that painters and decorators are faced with after finishing most projects. As well as being a boring and time consuming job, new disposal regulations have also made it an expensive task.

So, tradesmen will be interested to know that they could reduce their costs, while supporting a worthy cause, by donating their unused coatings to Community RePaint. The UK-wide reuse network has just announced that it helped over 17,000 groups and individuals transform their local areas with leftover paint last year, and wants to do even better in 2012.

Over 340,000 litres was donated to the scheme over the last 12 months, much of it from professional tradesmen, with the paint being used to add colour to hundreds of deserving community projects.

Many types can be donated, as long as it is less than 10 years old and the tin is more than a third full. With schemes ready to take paint across the UK, it really is a win-win situation.

Manager Martin Pearse, Community RePaint Network, said: "The network now has over 65 schemes across the UK and with four new schemes about to start at the beginning of 2012, we are hopeful of even more leftover, reusable paint being available to brighten up peoples' homes and communities."
