Ready to 'NEET' your next apprentice

One in six 16 to 24-year-olds are now considered to be 'NEET' - not in education, employment or training, according to recent Government statistics.

With a total of 979,000 young people now out of work, school or college, the Department for Education has suggested that more could be done to help them learn a trade - such as painting and decorating.

As a result, Brits may find that there is more funding available for on-the-job training schemes to help the unemployed get onto the career ladder.

Skills Minister John Hayes said: "We're taking action to get our young people into work, helping to restore a sense of responsibility and pride in our communities. Having built the largest apprenticeships programme our country has seen, we'll now do more to get young people who lack basic skills up to speed."
