Increase in number of female apprentices
More women are signing up to learn how to be painters and decorators, according to a recent article in The Guardian.
The report stated that the number of women enrolled on to such courses at Bournemouth and Poole College is up by 30 per cent compared to last year. Harlow College has also seen the number of painting and decorating applicants double over the last 12 months, which it says is due to a greater interest from females, with more than half of the students on painting and decorating courses now being female.
Harlow Principal Colin Hindmarsh told the newspaper: "We've had a significant increase in the number of women on this kind of course [...] At level 2, two thirds of our students are female."
Hindmarsh added: "We're finding that our students are becoming more entrepreneurial, they want to be in charge of their own destiny and these sorts of vocational courses allow them to set up their own business. They can be self-employed and self-reliant."
