Small businesses to be paid to take on apprentices
Painting and decorating firms could benefit from a new Government fund to encourage businesses to take on a young trainee.
Last week was National Apprentice Week and David Cameron, the Prime Minister, used the opportunity to announce that more money would be made available to get firms to take on trainees.
Under the plans, small businesses will be given a £1,500 cash incentive for taking on their first apprentice, as long as they are under 24 years old. The initiative is part of the Government's drive to get 400,000 young people into work.
A pot of £6m has been made available, which will support up to 40,000 new apprenticeships.
Cameron said: "By making apprenticeships a gold standard option for ambitious young people, we are sending a message that technical excellence is as highly valued as academic prowess."
"We are equipping businesses with the skills they need to rebalance our economy and distribute opportunity more widely."
