Small business to grow in 2012

2012 looks set to be a good year for small businesses, according to a new survey.

The survey, from private equity firm ECI Partners, shows that small businesses anticipate strong growth over the next 12 months. Sixty per cent of bosses expect double digit increases in turnover - with a third anticipating growth of more than 20 per cent.

It is also good news for employment levels; 74 per cent of those questioned expect to add to their firm's headcount.

The survey results confirm that businesses such as painters and decorators are driving the economic recovery in the UK.

Commenting on the findings, Mark Prisk, Minister of State for Enterprise, said: "It's good news that despite a tough few months, nearly three quarters of the SMEs surveyed by ECI are looking to recruit over the next year and half expect to see substantial profit growth in that period."
