Tax break proposals could help Painters and Decorators

Painters and decorators are among the businesses that could benefit from a tax break proposal by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).

The organisation, which represents the interests of smaller firms, has called on the Government to give small businesses a 'holiday' from employer National Insurance Contributions (NICs).

With three quarters of the companies surveyed by the FSB saying that their costs have increased over the last few months, the trade body thinks that a NIC holiday would offset the increasing cost of running a business.

It is calling for an existing break to be extended to all businesses with fewer than four employees. It is hoped that this will help small businesses to grow and take on new staff.

FSB national chairman John Walker said: "We urge the Chancellor to look closely at our NIC holiday proposals and bring this forward in his autumn statement."
