Scottish construction industry calls for VAT cut
Painters and decorators in Scotland may benefit from a tax reduction if a current appeal is successful.
The Scottish Construction Monitor surveyed members of the Scottish Building Federation (SBF) to find out what they thought could be done to help their industry.
Some 40 per cent of respondents stated that a VAT reduction on home building improvements would be the best way to support their sector. As a result, the body is now calling for the tax to be slashed from 20 per cent to five per cent.
"Cutting VAT has been a long-standing campaign issue for the industry," said Michael Levack, Chief Executive of the SBF. "This new survey demonstrated once again how strongly our members feel about the issue."
