West Oxfordshire business awards 2011

Oxfordshire based painters and decorators Harris & Thompson have been awarded runner up at West Oxfordshire Business Awards 2011 under the category New Business Of The Year. The event was held in March at the Prestigious Eynsham Hall.

Managing Director Marc Thompson said: "It is amazing for us to receive such recognition; this achievement has been the result of commitment by all of the team to implement constant high standards. Our strong focus on providing quality decorating and using quality materials has always been at the forefront of this business whilst gaining a reputation for a consistent high quality of workmanship. We are also grateful to Dulux Trade for their support over the past 18 months. Furthermore, the help and technical advice from the staff at the Oxford DDC branch has been second to none."

The judges commented that they were very impressed on how the company had taken an old fashioned trade, added a twist to it and brought it into the 21st century using numerous up-to-date communications and marketing methods. Their use of social media, including Facebook, twitter and a company blog pushed Harris & Thompson to page One of Google's search for Decorators in Oxfordshire.

The judges also commended the numerous community projects the company was involved in, including the recent makeover of Finstock Community Shop where Dulux Trade supplied the paint and Harris & Thompson provided the labour free of charge.

Marc Thompson added, "we have a very positive outlook on business which filters down through the staff. Business is tough out there but you have to be positive and find ways of bringing the clients to you all the time. My ethos is, a business that is stagnant is a business that ultimately fails."

Recently the company was chosen as one of two decorating companies to tender for the exterior decoration of the prestigious Blenheim Palace and to carry out works to the Great Hall.
